I have been kind of numb today. Functioning at 1/2 power, it is with a heavy heart that I say good-by to my dear friend, Lee Gates. A long time friend and student, she passed from this world last night. I will miss her company, love, energy and laughter so much.

I think continual growth is one of the most important things we should strive for in life. Learning, study, enthusiasm and mental vitality go hand in hand. Knowledge is not only good for our mind, it keeps us young and alert and is nourishment for the spirit, heart and soul. I am excited about signing up for an inspiring ecourse in oil painting and soul connecting with Dreama which starts at the end of this week!

It has been very quiet around here.
My parents took off for home yesterday.
We had a great visit and did a lot of fun things
while they were here.

Mom and I enjoyed doing art together.

She left with two matted 8" x 10" florals

and three framed 5" x 7" bird watercolors

that now hang in their motorhome.

She likes them so much, they will hang

in her house when not traveling.

My art lessons gave her a new found enthusiasm for learning.

I hope she finds some classes to get involved in at home.

We are staying busy and having a great time visiting with my parents
while they are here in NJ. Mom and I have been doing lots of artwork together.
I made a copy of my Irises for her on Yupo paper and she painted along as I did mine.

Today's Experiment ~ A Looser Direct Approach to Watercolor

Today's larger watercolor was painted directly on Yupo paper with transparent watercolor without any preliminary pencil lines or even a rough thumbnail sketch. For the past year, since I shattered my ankle last April Fool's Day, I have painted primarily smaller works while seated. Today, while standing and painting larger, I rediscovered a whole body, dance like rhythm that's more freeing and relaxing. I don't think I could have done this same painting while seated.

I'm fairly happy with it, but I have a dilemma.

Do I leave it as is?

11.5  x 14.5"  ~ 16" x 20" Matted size

Or should I add a little more to it? (foliage and/or vase, more pink and blue flowers in the upper left and/or lower right, etc.?)  I could go back in. It's easy enough to do on Yupo, unlike traditional cotton rag watercolor paper. Sometimes it's hard to know when to stop though. I'm always hearing that little voice saying; "less is more".

Or do I just crop it and move on?

I'm seeking the help of some of you awesome artists out there! Lately the feeling of isolation from other creative types is starting to get me down. Your camaraderie and suggestions for improving this piece would go a long way in cheering me up. Thanks for your time and input in advance. I love you guys. You know who you are!

P.S. I hate to be a pain, but I'm also looking for suggestions for a title for this one. ☺
