If The Broom Fits ...

"If The Broom Fits, Fly It!"

“There were reasons dark books were written by women, those who were not allowed to publish, those who couldn't own property, those who had been sold for sex, those who had grown old and were no longer desirable, women in chains, women who dreamed, women who had turned left when it seemed the only choice.”
~  Alice Hoffman

This original 12" x 12" x 3/4" acrylic pour is detailed with alcohol ink. Created on a gallery wrapped n canvas, it comes ready to hang without a frame (but can also be framed if that's your desire). 'If The Broom Fits, Ride It' is on sale now for only $249. 00.

I also have a 10" x 10" high quality reproduction on 1/2" black foam core,
witch is wired and ready for hanging for $60.00.

The Oaks Ignored Their Pleas

"There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

 ~ Neil Peart

I based today's painting on one I did for the first 30 in 30 in 2013.
This is one of the many stages this piece went through.
I wanted to revisit the theme of this favorite, very visual quote.
And after squinting at this for a while, I realized that the light sky value at
the bottom right was distracting, taking emphasis away from my focal point.
I decided to try to make it better, so I changed one thing, and then another ...
Please check it out and let me know if you think I achieved my goal.

See today's painting, Day 12, now
and the finished painting for "Unrest In The Forest" - Day 13
tomorrow here on my website blog.

Wow, we are quickly coming up to the half way point of the challenge.
It's all down hill from there my friends!

Everything Connected With Autumn

"Over everything connected with autumn
there lingers some golden spell -
some unseen influence
that penetrates the soul  with
its mysterious power."

ARRRRRR, It 'Twas A Jolly Good Month!

It was one of those joyful, eventful months,
full of autumnal days which occur even
more perfectly in memory than in life.

I didn't do much painting this month, except for the past
week, when some Halloween images were just begging
to be released from their alcohol inky backgrounds.

Paintings inspired by the season. Email Sandy@SandySandy.com for purchase info.

And WOW! I didn't expect this award from the Alcohol Ink Artists Group on facebook.

I'm touched and have never won a medal before.

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt,
finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,
sermons in stones, and good in everything."
~ William Shakespeare

When witches go riding and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,‘tis near Halloween.

From "The Birds" / 1963 Horror film
"I think we're in real trouble. I don't know how this started or why,
but I know it's here and we'd be crazy to ignore it... The bird war,
the bird attack, plague - call it what you like. They're amassing
out there someplace and they'll be back. You can count on it...
Unless we do something right now!"

Here's a short explanation of why you haven't
seen many blog posts from me lately . . . .

October was a month full of fun and excitement here at The Sandarosa.

It started off with my parents' two week visit and our annual art event here at the studio. Then my sister, Gaile, from Florida, visited in the middle. And our friends, Dorrie and Dave's visit topped off the end. There were so many laughs, games, celebrations, great food, day trips and adventures along the way!

Poplar ~ Tree of the Autumnal Equinox ~ # 22 of 30 ~SOLD

“Autumn is a second spring
when every leaf is a flower.”
~ Albert Camus

Today marks the autumn equinox this year. Equinox means "equal night" and on March 21st and Sept. 22nd, 2013, the day and night are of equal length. The autumnal equinox traditionally has been a time of harvest and thanksgiving. Spiritually, it is a celebration of "going within", preparing for the darkness and a kind of symbolic death and resurrection. Now daylight will continue to decline until December 21st, marking the winter solstice, when the days once again slowly begin to get longer. Throughout the history of mankind, many legends, rituals and beliefs are centered around the changing of the seasons. There are as many varied beliefs as there are cultures. One of the most interesting I found was the Celtic Connection of the Autumnal Equinox to the Poplar Tree. Do you know of any you'd like to share?

“But then fall comes,
kicking summer out on its treacherous ass
as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September,
it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed.
It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair
and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with
stories of places he has been and things he has done
since last he saw you.”
~ Stephen King

Many thanks to Katherine Thomas for suggesting the subject of today's legend.

Happy fall y'all!
