Saturday, June 10th,  1 - 4 - The Rehoboth Art League, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Come discover how forgiving and fun painting on tree-free Yupo paper is! Paint a "rainbow feather" (or two or three), in transparent watercolor on synthetic Yupo paper. The basics of painting on Yupo will be discussed while the instructor demonstrates. Students will then have the opportunity to create their own with the "tricks and tips" and hands-on guidance.

Watercolor sits on the surface of Yupo paper, so you don't lose 30% of the brightness like you do on regular rag watercolor paper. You will love creating these feathers. It is simple, fast paced and done without any preliminary drawing! It is fun for all skill levels.

"Use it or loose it" is a common phrase used to express what Leonardo was talking about here. I believe that as we age, we must work even harder than we did in our youth to stay in shape; physically and mentally. We should try to experience new things and challenge ourselves in body and spirit everyday. It is all too easy to get cynical, complacent and set in our ways and use the words; "I can't (Fill in the blank)".  Those words are a jail sentence to continued evolution, fulfillment and enlightenment.  Often, I think  "I can't" really means "I am too lazy, tired or disinterested to really work at something". When we stop learning new things, our mental growth stagnates. When we stop exercising, our physical strength and stamina deteriorates. It's a simple law of nature. Use the abilities you were given and constantly work to improve your gifts. If you do, your life will be enriched with vigor and knowledge for having made the effort.

The past month was a tough one for me. I'm not very good at handling loss. On August 8th, I lost my beloved 34 year old horse, Rudy overnight. It was a shock and a relief because I assume he went quickly in the night and I didn't have to see him suffer or make any heart wrenching decisions. He came into my life 33 years ago and was never anything but a wonderful pleasure and an amazing gift. He left this world and my life gracefully and I am so very thankful to God that he went quickly and hopefully painlessly. My grief is finally starting to lessen and the tears are coming on less frequently. The gaping hole in my life and the stronghold he has on my heart will always remain. The way to truly appreciate something is to realize it may be lost, so I'm trying harder everyday to be thankful and appreciate all the wonderful memories we shared and all blessings I have in my daily life.

It has been an action packed week with family visiting from out of town. We have been very busy! The first day we went to Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. There is a wonderful retrospective exhibit there through September 21st. We had a blast! I plan to go back at least one more time before it is over.
