Art Touches Our Emotions

"Don't be surprised if you find me sitting in

I'm just looking at a picture, and I'm closer to heaven
than I'll ever be in my life."

Cherished Art Is Not A Product

"Cherished art becomes a portal
through which we may enter the universe . . .
a glimpse, a sliver, a hint of our very own heaven.
Artists are providing a personal journey
to an emotional state of mind.
Art is a service, not a product."
~ David Rodman Johnson

We all need less stuff these days. I know all about wanting to de-clutter and live in a fresher, less complicated, more relaxing environment. The question is really more about how I can enhance my life, by getting rid of the things that no longer "do anything for me", except take up space. Your living spaces will look and feel so much better, when you finally replace those decorative chachkes, posters, photos, kid drawings, faded prints, etc. that you got 20 years ago as a gift from so-and-so on your wedding day. You've hung it for 20 years or more. Your obligation is over. There's no better time than now to move on! A fresh start with inspiring art that YOU CHOOSE for yourself, can change the whole look and feel of the rooms you live in. Look around you. Do you see things that are taking up space on your walls, without paying you back anything in return?

To love a painting is to feel that this presence is ...
not an object but a voice."
~ Andre Malraux

"Art is a living river that runs through our time
and will run on as long as art is created and appreciated.
To purchase a painting is to take a dipper full of the river home
to constantly be refreshed with the energy of life."
~ Stewart Turcotte

Only 30 Days Until Christmas!

"Time is a dressmaker
specializing in alterations."
~ Faith Baldwin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Twilight Friend  SOLD~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alcohol Ink on Yupo paper
Yikes! Where has this year gone? I can hardly believe how fast the time goes anymore. There are only thirty days left until Christmas and after that, 2014 is as good as gone.  I constantly feel like I'm playing catch up these days. As a friend of mine always says, "The faster I go, the behinder I get." Oh well, I guess I'm not alone. I hear this sentiment more and more these days.
I spent the day designing and ordering some more calendars and I hope you'll take a look. I've always found if I can find some unique gifts and buy in bulk, it helps reduce the stress of gift giving. (ie: This year, everyone is getting calendars!) There's a reason that vendors set up all those calendar kiosks in the malls. Calendars really are an exceptional gift because it is something one can use and enjoy the whole year through! They are great for those hard to buy for folks too!  Please take a look and consider my desk and wall calendar offerings this year. I think they are a good deal and will have a wide range of appeal for many people on your gift giving list.
Hope you are doing well and enjoying life!
Thanks for stopping by!
Do You Doodle?
“Man is so made,
that he can only find relaxation
from one kind of labor,
by taking up another. ”
~ Anatole France
I think an important part of the creative process is allowing the "right brain" to dominate and take control of the matters at hand. Too often, I hear that critical "left brain" voicing it's know-it-all opinions when things start to go wrong. The annoying, detractive, subconscious mumblings seem to take pleasure in trying to undermine my intuitive, creative muse.
Nowadays, when I start to hear that destructive chatter, I can usually refocus and settle back into "the zone" fairly quickly. One of the sure fire ways I regroup is to take a deep breath and do a little doodling. Mindful doodling has been proven to relax the mind and encourage creativity. There are many videos and information online on "Zentangle", a somewhat new, more methodized and commercialized form of the art. The truth is, you don't need a kit, a manual or any special supplies to get started. Just look at some of the great doodle art other people are doing out there and get inspired!
This painting started out as an experiment and I thought a probable reject. Near the end, I got a phone call from a friend and started doodling on it with a white pen. After relaxing, doodling and letting the piece tell me what it wanted, I was very happy with the end result. I posted it online yesterday and it is already sold! Yay! Lesson learned. Listen to your intution and get into "the zone". It might just save the day, or at least the painting of the day!
What do you do when that "left critical brain" rears it's ugly head? How do you relax? Can you offer some tips on what works for you?
Happy creating!
Going With The Flow
“Planning is helpful. If you don’t know what you want, you’ll seldom get it. But, no matter how well you plan, you will fare better if you expect the unexpected. The unexpected, by nature, comes unseen, unthought, unenvisioned. All you can do is plan to go unplanned, prepare to be unprepared, make going with the flow part of your agenda, for the most successful among us envision, plan, and prepare, but cast all aside as needed, while those who are unable to go with the flow often suffer, if they survive.” ~ David W. Jones
The Flow of Nature
I've been neglecting my blog lately and I apologize to anyone who looks forward to their regularity. After a hectic October, going with the flow here at The Sandarosa has me enjoying a more relaxed appreciation for life and nature's seasonal glory. Late autumn is a perfect time to reorganize, recharge and reflect.
I gave my first Alcohol Ink Workshop at the Center for the Arts of Southern NJ on Saturday and it was a huge success! I have been asked to hold another one there and have plans to offer a workshop again in February.
I'm excited to announce that I am publishing my first ever, wall calendar for 2015 ~ FOR THE LOVE OF TREES! It is 8 x 11", printed on glossy card stock and features 20 tree paintings with the quotes that inspired them. They are already on their way and as soon as I receive them, they will go on sale online and at my studio for the introductory price of only $19.99 each!
A great gift for tree-lovers!
Keep a look out for my calendar announcement.
Quantities are limited!
Thanks for stopping by!
I hope everyone reading this is well and enjoying life.
HUGS
