Superstitious About Friday the 13th?

"On Friday the 13th,
Don't walk under any ladders,
Don't break any mirrors,
Don't spill any salt,
And don't walk by any black cats."

Friday the 13th happens only once this year; today, May 13th. The belief that Friday the 13th is bad luck is one of the most prevalent legends of the 20th and 21st century. It is hard to pinpoint the exact origins that are responsible for it's popularity because there are so many! Follow the links to see more information about this day!

The Colors of Spring

"If we could see the miracle
of a single flower clearly,
our whole world would change."
 ~ Buddha

The Miracle of Spring

Tulips symbolize perfect love, new life and spiritual awareness.

Everyone in this area is so ready for winter to be over! More frigid, sloppy weather is on its way. It's chilly here today but at least the sun is shining. I've found comfort in painting and posting flowers on Facebook and Daily Paintworks over the past week. The cheerful colors seem to offer a soothing respite from the dreary grays of the season. I hope today's tulip perks you up too.

I am thinking of all my online buddies
and hoping you are having a colorful day!

Thanks for stopping by.

Little Rabbit ~ Symbol of Overcoming Our Fears

"Fear stifles our thinking and actions.
It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation.
I have known talented people who procrastinate
indefinitely rather than risk failure.
Lost opportunities
cause erosion of confidence,
and so the downward spiral begins."
~ Charles Stanley

Thirty New Paintings of Animals I Love

"An animal's eyes have the power
to speak a great language."
~ Martin Buber

Here are the paintings I completed during the month of January 2014.

Spirit Guides and Animals I Love
8.5" x 6.5" Watercolors On Yupo Paper

I am very excited to present this collage of artwork which represents my third 30 Paintings In 30 Days Challenge series! Each number and title links to a larger view with painting prices, details and the symbolism associated with each animal. Because I'm envisioning these pieces will make some very interesting groupings, you will receive a discount on original paintings from this series in sets of three or more!  Just place your order through the PayPal shopping cart and I'll happily refund 10% of the total price of the artwork.

I'm also planning on offering prints in various sizes on a few of these images, based on popularity. If you'd be interested in a print of one or more of these paintings, please leave me a comment with the name or number in the comments section here or on the painting's individual blog entry. Some of these images have been tweaked since my first post, so please follow the links to see the current version. I'd really appreciate your input too. It will be very helpful in deciding which ones I may offer as prints.

"If all the beasts were gone, men would
die from a great loneliness of spirit,
for whatever happens to the beasts
also happens to the man.  All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of the Earth. "
 ~ Chief Seattle

I was hoping to get a cohesive series this month, but it looks like my creative muse has other plans! At this point, I guess I'll just switch gears and settle for a month of experimentation and exploration!

"Art is a path on which we honor our world.
Art may not be the only path, but it is a good path,
even though at times a difficult one. As bearers of
this honor, we artists do not need to simply
render our world as we see it
but as we might ourselves redesign it."

Deer ~ Symbol of Gentleness and Love

Because of its wandering nature,
deer have been associated with new adventure
and path finding, so I thought it was a fitting subject to start out the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge.

Deer Spirit ~ Divine Connection

Day 2
See painting specifications and price here.

Gentleness  ~  Heightened Perception  ~  Path finding

The hardest part about this painting challenge for me is not painting 30 paintings, but painting 30 paintings that I want to post online for all the world to see! My idea for this series was so well planned out, I thought it was going to be a piece of cake. WRONG! I've done six paintings since yesterday and still am not satisfied with the path I'm on! Oh well, I know all too well, it's all part of the process. I'm not getting stressed out about it or anything, yet. No pain, no gain.

I'm trying to come up with a similar color scheme and approach for the set. I am experimenting with technique and tried workable fixative but got the same bubbled up effect (above) like with regular fixative. I guess there is just so much layering you can do with watercolor on Yupo paper unless you go pretty opaque. I have tried using thin acrylic washes but so far have been unhappy with my results.

Deer Spirit ~ Day 1

NFS

It's already started coming down, and according to the National Weather Service, we are expecting "blowing snow" ( never saw that term before) and very cold temps with wind chills in the  minuses here tonight and tomorrow. Supplies for the animals are stockpiled and the horses are double blanketed. The hatches are battened down and Jerry just got back with gas for the tractor so we can dig out if need be.

Thanks for stopping by.

Stay safe and warm and have a good evening.
