Prioritize Your Passion

“Persistence. Perfection. Patience. Power.
Prioritize your passion. It keeps you sane.”
~ Criss Jami, Killosophy

I attended a wonderful three day, Marketing Boot Camp
given by Leslie Saeta in Cape Cod this week. It was so great
to experience her amazing energy and that of all the other
incredibly accomplished artists who participated.

Mesmerized -alcohol ink on Yupo

While I was gone, I sold this large 30 x 40" print on metal
to a wonderful couple who live on the coast in Delaware.
Today I got this photo and note from the happy new owners.

"I get great satisfaction in creating a visual oasis
to gaze at for a moment of peaceful escape
from the turbulent world."

My Solo Show Is Now Up At The MAC

I am so happy!
Everyone keeps telling me that the show,
 "An Evolution of Passion"
looks really fabulous!

The exhibit opened yesterday and the time went by really quickly.
New friends and old stopped by to help, visit, get a speak peek,
bring flowers, buy some art and in general, wish us luck.

When I envisioned the show, I knew it would be the biggest collection
of Sandy Sandy Art ever displayed in one location.
(Several have already "left the building", lol.)

Thinking conservatively, cautiously I told people that
"there would be over 100 original paintings on display".

Little did I realize, until after two days of set up, that there are
well over 400 original pieces of my art on display and for sale.
WOW! That was a shocker!

A Happy Talent

"It is a happy talent to know how to play."
 ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

"The very essence of playfulness is an openness
to anything that may happen,
the feeling that whatever happens, it's okay.
You're either free to play, or you're not."
 ~ John Cleese

I'm really looking forward to our "play"shop tomorrow!

Don't Stop Playing!

"We don't stop playing because we grow old;
we grow old because we stop playing."
~ George Bernard Shaw

Dolphin Spirit ~ Natural Rhythms

Social ~ Relaxation ~ Exercise ~ Exuberance

~  8.5 x 6.5" Hand Painted Watercolor on Yupo Paper
Matted and Framed to 10" x 8"

Here's a few in-progress shots for today's painting.

First Step - Paint the eyes and body.
Because I wanted the dolphin lighter than the
background, I started with light to medium mid-tones.

Second Step -
The background wash and swirls were added.

Third Step -
As in previous posts, the painting was finished
by adding the calligraphy, lifting a little pigment
here and there and adding a few darks and darker mid-tones.

Dolphion Spirit -  Full frame/ Uncropped

Thanks again for all the comments and emails
from old friends and new!
I hope you are having a playful day.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

A Loving Embrace

"Drawing is a frame of mind, a loving embrace if you will."
 ~ Susan Avishai

I love this quote about drawing. It is one of my favorites. Ok, I'll admit, I'm a quote junkie and I've got hundreds of favorites! But this one sort of sums up how I feel when I'm drawing something I love and I'm in the *zone (*the place or state of mind you are in when youve made that right brain shift).

Today's little watercolor sketch was done from multiple reference photos and sketches in my many reference folders; collected over the decades; some of which I still have from childhood.  Often when drawing or planning a painting, I use many images to come up with a final design.

We've got hummer action here non-stop now and they are keeping me busy cleaning and filling the feeders. And of course, I'm taking multiple hummingbird breaks during the day, just to indulge in the sheer joy of being in their presence; feeling the rush of air as they zoom by; watching the acrobatic displays, listening to the excited chattering and being enchanted by their never ending magic.
