At The End Of Your Comfort Zone

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it,
move with it, and join the dance.”
 ~ Alan W. Watts
1996 -2016 ~ SandySandy.com

SandySandy.com is now over twenty years old! I created it in 1996 and have updated and maintained it since then. Long story short, I moved the site, SandySandy.com over to a new web hosting site. The old hosting site, where I still have my domains registered, is merging with another company, so everything is in transition there. After days of talking to over a dozen and a half different technical support reps., in the four separate companies that are involved, I am still unable to hook up my main emails; info@sandysandy.com or sandy@sandysandy.com. I don't know if or when this - finally admitted "known issue" will be resolved, so I am notifying all friends, family and companies that I have used those emails with (99% - for the last 20 years) that my email address has now been changed to: ssandyssan@gmail.com. Ugh! So please update your records everyone!

Hugs and Happy Creating, xo Sandy

Into The Light

"Oh yes! He loved yellow, did good Vincent.
When the two of us were together in Arles,
both of us insane, we were constantly at war
over beautiful colors."
~ Paul Gauguin

For the past couple of weeks, I seem to be obsessed with Vincent van Gogh's paintings. I've been seeing his works and reading stories about him everywhere online. I really enjoyed working in his color palette and interpreting his painting "The Undergrowth" on ceramic tile, posted here, earlier this month. I decided I wanted to try to paint the piece again only larger and in a vertical format, so here is my second attempt at it. You can see my first painting and Vincent's lovely painting here.

Thank you for your continued friendship and feedback.

Happy creating everyone!

Yesterday, Fat Tuesday, was my snowy birthday. Birthdays have, of course, lost some of their charm at my age. I must admit, it feels really good to be warmly treated and remembered by so many friends and family members though.

Jerry and I spent the later part of birthday afternoon at the Borgota Casino & Hotel in AC playing $5,000 Bingo, surrounded by about 5,000 other senior folks. It was a good way to feel young on a 61st birthday. We weren't lucky at Bingo but had a delicious meal at the buffet and made just enough on the slots afterwards to pay for the Jeep window that had to be repaired this morning. We had to stuff cardboard in the track so it would stay up on the chilly ride home.

I saw an interview on TV recently of an elderly couple that had been married for 81 years. What struck me most about them was their joyful attitude towards each other and cheerful take on life in general. Although they were both approaching 100, they had not forsaken that idealistic, youthful glow. Their enthusiasm was inspiring.

"It is through the idealism of youth
that man catches sight of truth,
and in that idealism he possesses a wealth
which he must never exchange for anything else."
~ Albert Schweitezer

Thanks so much to you all for your birthday cards, emails,
wishes and especially your friendship,

Happiness Is A By-Product ~ Sold

"If you observe a really happy man, you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden, or looking for dinosaur eggs in the Gobi desert.  He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator.  He will not be striving for it as a goal in itself.  He will have become aware that he is happy in the course of living life twenty-four crowded hours of the day." ~ W. Beran Wolfe

A Very Vincent Day ~ How Lovely Yellow Is!

"How lovely yellow is!
It stands for the sun."
~ Vincent van Gogh

The Day started with my usual social networking and web cruising. My meandering ended up bringing me to my old blog post on Vincent van Gogh from 2012, when I attended the exhibit of his work in Philadelphia. I made an album on my facebook art page with some of his works from that post and got inspired all over again. Using his color palette from one of my favorite VVG paintings, I did these three paintings on ceramic tiles today.

"You're In My Dreams"
6 x 8" Alcohol Ink on Ceramic Tile

"On The Road to Arles"
4 x 4" Alcohol Ink on Ceramic Tile

"Out Of The Woods"
6 x 8" Alcohol Ink on Ceramic Tile

Alcohol Ink Workshops ~ An Artistic Adventure

“The purpose of life is to live it,
to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly and without fear
for newer and richer experience.”
~ Eleanor Roosevelt

"Mind-Blowing Moon Dance"
8 x 10" Dbl. Matted Alcohol Ink on Yupo
email: sandy@sandysandy.com for purchase info.

The Alcohol Ink Workshop went really well at CFA on Saturday. It was a great group and a fun-filled, stimulating experience for everyone; myself included. I provided the instruction on techniques and the participants dove right in with their creative interpretations. It was wonderful to see how each artist approached the exercises a little  differently, with their own panache and style. This created excitement as we worked and shared. There were lots of laughs and OOhs and Ahs!
