We Are All Part Of A Great Whole

"None of us is as smart as all of us."
~ Kenneth Blanchard

"Follow Your Bliss" ~ Original 10 x 8" Matted A.I. on Yupo
It's been a hectic, (mostly good) two weeks since my last blog post here!
I'm going to recap in blog order from most recent to oldest news.

The painting above, was one of many done yesterday in alcohol inks
using my new toy  tool.

What fun it is to blow the inks around!

"Rendezvous" ~ Original 5 x 7" Matted A.I. on Yupo

The alcohol ink workshop here at the studio on July 9th was so much fun
and overall, I think speaking for everyone, a wonderful learning and sharing event.

The next scheduled Alcohol Ink Workshop here at Sandarosa Studio
will be on September 10th! Most of the artists said they're coming back.

I had a scare with my mare, Santa Margarita. She got real sick early last week, had a fever and was not eating.  She was treated with IV antibiotics for Potomac Horse Fever and seems to be recovering from the ordeal. Yesterday was the first day all week she ventured out into her pasture to eat some grass. Thanks to everyone on facebook who sent out caring, healing thoughts and prayers.

Braveheart is such a joy and is integrating into the family nicely.

Here's Braveheart's very first portrait. He's definitely part of the family now!
(Braveheart - 12 weeks old) 10 x 8" dbl. matted and framed alcohol ink painting.

I hope your summer is going well.
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Creating!

Art, Visitors, Flowers and a Kitten

“I wanted to figure out why I was so busy,
but I couldn't find the time to do it."
~ Todd Stocker

My parents are visiting and we are having fun creating with alcohol inks.
Look how nice mom's first alcohol ink tile turned out!

A happy family adopted two of Sally's Kittens.
The look on these boys faces' says it all.
Love at first sight!

And we adopted the third. Meet Braveheart.
We are really smitten with this kitten!
He has moved into our hearts and our home
after a clean bill of health from the vet on Thursday.

We finally caught feral mom cat, Sally, with the help of this drop trap.
We are thrilled that we caught the kitten's
mom after trying for almost a year!

We're caring for an array of flowers, the horse and outside feral cats.
There is always lots of work to be done
here at the Sandarosa, but I guess
we wouldn't have it any other way!

Hope your summer is going well.
It's been really hot here the past couple of days.
Stay cool, happy creating and have a nice weekend!

To Dream of Kittens

“A kitten is,
in the animal world,
what a rosebud is in the garden.”
~ Robert Sowthey

Feral cat, Sally's kittens just came out of hiding.

We were starting to get nervous
and had even discussed ripping up the hay shed floor
to get to them because we knew they were underneath.

They were 6 weeks old on Wednesday
and they are ever so precious.

We already have an adoptive family for two of them.
I have been spending time with them everyday
and today one of them even sat on my lap!

Hopefully we can catch them
and start the socializing process this coming week.
I'll keep you updated.
Wish us luck!!

Happy creating and have a nice holiday weekend!

HAPPY SUNFLOWERS

"The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance;
the wise grows it under his feet."
~ James Openheim

Watercolor Work Station

This painting was done standing at my big table, with lots of tools and visual reference, maybe too much information (TMI). I'll simplify things next time. Here I did the background first. On the last sunflower painting, I did the flower first. I like to mix things up so I don't get stuck in a rut. I painted this on 144 lb., 17pt., heavy weight Yupo paper that Marc from Legion Papers sent me to sample. He also sent me a couple of pads of translucent Yupo paper. That's got my head spinning with ideas!

"It's never too late to have a happy childhood."
~Berke Breathed

It was a year ago yesterday that we captured Opie and Cutie Pye
and their siblings, who now reside in New York.
Awe, they were just little wild bush babies.

I must admit, they've really made themselves indispensable
around the place. How did we ever mange without them?
They sure have brought us an extra special kind of happiness.

Thanks for stopping by!
Stay cool and have a great weekend.

Hugs and Purrs,
and the little darlings

I will be featuring some of this year's new works

Of course, Cutie Pye and Opie are always eager to help.
No job is complete without my extra special, highly qualified, inspection team.
After they double checked each frame, every one was personalized with paw prints,
kitty hair and a nose smudge. What wonderful assistants they are!
Double the work, but definitely double the pleasure!

It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing.
