Birds Of A Feather

“A heart without dreams
is like a bird without feathers.”
 ~ Suzy Kassem

The hummingbirds are fattening up for their long fall migration.
I hate to see them go. I have enjoyed their company immensely.
And even more now, that I know they'll soon be leaving me.

The Key To Mastery

"A master painting has
multiple repeating threads running through it.
These hold the painting together and unify it
in much the same way a great symphony is
tied together by a repeated main theme.
Variety in these repeated elements,
as in music, adds interest to the painting.
Repetition, variety, unity and harmony are
characteristics of all great symphonies
and of all great paintings."

I have been crazy busy trying to film my painting sessions, along with planing and editing my videos. All the while, I'm keeping up with the #30paintingsin30days challenge so far! It's very intense, but I am learning so much and seeing first hand how I do certain things, that have become automatic. I smile and chuckle while listening to my painting wisdom gleaned over more than 40 years. I never imagined I'd be learning so much from the videos myself, lol!

FREE HUGS AROUND THE WORLD

I just watched this video again. I posted it to my facebook page last week because it made me cry when I watched it. This Italian account has 2,742,411 views and was uploaded in May of 2010. This leads me to believe that a lot of other people like hugging too! There are many versions of this, done over the years in different locations around the world which can be seen on YouTube. I'd love to try this sometime.

This second video is from September of 2006 and has 67,013,976 views. I think it is pretty good too. Which one do you like better and why?

Is Your Left or Right Brain Dominant?

WHICH WAY DOES SHE SPIN?

Watch this video and see if the dancer moves clockwise or counter clockwise. If she moves clockwise, you're probably more right brain dominated. You often function using your NON VERBAL, intuitive, creative side. If you see her move counter clockwise, you are in the majority and are more of a left brain dominated, VERBAL, analytical individual.

ACCORDING TO BETTY EDWARDS, AUTHOR OF DRAWING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN, "The right brain perceives and processes visual information, in the way one needs to see in order to draw, and the left brain perceives in ways that seem to interfere with drawing."
"An individual's ability to draw is... the ability to shift to a different-from-ordinary way of processing visual information - to shift from verbal, analytic processing to spatial, global processing." ~ Betty Edwards

I just got my new, revised, expanded and updated copy of Betty Edwards' wonderful classic, "Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain"! Betty says learning to draw is like learning to drive or ride a bike. Once it's learned, we don't have to think about it. I decided to go through the book and do the whole class again. (It has been a while.) Follow along with me this summer as I go through Betty's course and sketch everyday.
